The American Lash Certification Board exists for one reason: to give the lash industry a professional standard that means something, to artists, to clients, to educators, to salon owners, and to the brands that serve this market.
The eyelash extension industry has grown into a multi-billion dollar market. Tens of thousands of artists practice across all 50 states. Yet there is no federal regulation, no national licensing standard, and no universally-recognized credential. State regulation is a patchwork. The word "certified" has been diluted to meaninglessness. ALCB was built to fix this. Not by lobbying for government regulation, but by creating a private, professional standard that is rigorous enough to mean something, accessible enough to be widely adopted, and verifiable enough that anyone can confirm an artist's credential in real time.
ALCB publishes the professional standard for lash artistry across six pillars: product knowledge, application, safety, aftercare, ethics, and advanced technique. Standards are reviewed and updated regularly by working industry professionals.
The recertification course evaluates working artists against the six-pillar standard through graded assessments. Artists who pass earn the ALCB credential, a digital verification badge, and access to the membership ecosystem.
Every certified artist is searchable in the public directory on thealcb.org. Clients, employers, and anyone else can verify an artist's status in real time through QR codes, digital badges, and the verification portal.
The Lash Commons is ALCB's private member community for technique discussion, business strategy, client referrals, and professional networking. Every member has passed the same recertification.
ALCB offers recognition pathways for individual educators and training academies. We review curricula against our standard, provide feedback, and certify programs that meet the benchmark.
The ALCB Approved Products program reviews lash supplies against safety and quality criteria. Products that pass earn the ALCB Approved seal, giving artists a trusted resource for supply decisions.
ALCB is a private professional association. We are not a government agency, a regulatory body, or a licensing board. We do not enforce laws, issue fines, or have the authority to prevent anyone from practicing. ALCB certification does not replace any state-required license, permit, or certification. What ALCB does is set a professional standard that exceeds most state requirements, specifically for lash artistry, and provide a verification system that gives artists, clients, employers, and the public a way to distinguish between professionals who have been evaluated and those who have not.
Whether you're an artist, an educator, a salon owner, or a brand, ALCB is the platform.
