ALCB Industry Standards

The Professional Standard
for Lash Artistry.

ALCB publishes and maintains the recommended professional standards for eyelash extension application, lash lift and tint services, sanitation, client safety, and ethical practice across the United States.

Why Standards Matter

An Industry Without a National Standard
Is an Industry at Risk.

The eyelash extension industry in the United States generates billions in annual revenue, yet the majority of states have no specific licensing requirements for lash application. The word "certified" has been diluted to meaninglessness by weekend workshops and self-issued certificates that verify nothing. ALCB's standards exist to fill that gap.

The ALCB Standards

Six Pillars of Professional Practice

01. Product Knowledge

A ALCB-standard lash artist understands the products they use at a chemical level. This includes understanding cyanoacrylate adhesive formulations, lash fiber types and structural differences, proper use and storage of primers, accelerators, sealants, and removers, ability to read Safety Data Sheets, and understanding how environmental controls affect adhesive performance and client safety.

02. Application Process

ALCB standards for application cover every step from client consultation to final check. This includes thorough health history review and allergy screening, proper lash isolation using precision tweezers, correct attachment point placement within the optimal bonding zone, lash mapping for different eye shapes, fan creation for volume work with proper weight distribution, and length and curl selection based on natural lash capacity.

03. Sanitation & Safety

Client safety is non-negotiable. Standards include the distinction between cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization, single-use supply protocols, multi-use tool processing, hand hygiene, allergic reaction identification and response, chemical burn prevention, contraindication screening, and documentation requirements that protect both artist and client.

04. Aftercare & Refills

Quality extends beyond the appointment. Standards cover clear aftercare communication including the 24-48 hour curing window, providing written aftercare instructions, refill timing based on the natural lash growth cycle, damage assessment at every refill, knowing when to recommend removal rather than reapplication, and honest communication about safe lash load limits.

05. Ethical Considerations

Professionalism is defined by ethical conduct as much as technical skill. Standards address scope of practice, honest consultation and realistic expectations, contraindication disclosure even when it means losing revenue, marketing integrity without misleading filters or false credentials, professional accountability when outcomes don't meet expectations, and respect for colleagues.

06. Advanced Technique

Artists offering advanced services are held to additional standards. This includes volume fan construction with proper weight ratios, mega volume methodology and load calculations, hybrid styling with intentional technique combination, lash lift and tint chemistry understanding, precision styling for specific client requests, and troubleshooting common technical issues during service.
