Lash Licensing by State:
Know Your Requirements.

Lash extension regulations vary dramatically from state to state. Some require a full cosmetology or esthetician license. Some require only a specialty certificate. Some have no specific requirements at all.

The Regulatory Landscape

A Patchwork of Rules.
One National Standard.

As of 2025, the United States has no federal regulation specific to eyelash extension application. Oversight falls to individual state boards, and the requirements range from comprehensive to nonexistent. ALCB's recertification exists to provide a consistent, verifiable credential that means the same thing in every state.
